AllAboutEyes 2024 Northern Limpopo Symposium
AllAboutEyes hosted it’s very first symposium in Northern Limpopo on the 5th of October 2024. The day began bright and early at 08:00am with back-to-back academic discussions on a range of ophthalmic topics such as glaucoma, keratoconus and diabetic eye disease. We closed off the afternoon around 3pm with lunch and socialization.
In South Africa, health care practitioners including optometrists are required to attend a prescribed minimum number of academic meetings to earn continuous professional development points (CPD). Our symposium was CPD accredited, and each attendee earned 7 CPD points.
We had 2 generous sponsors from some of the most reputable ophthalmic pharmaceutical companies in S.A, namely Abbvie and Adcock Ingram. We are grateful for the samples and gifts they provided as well as their product burst presentations which added meaningfully to the academic discussions.
A takeaway from this is that the growth of the Ophthalmic industry lies in the hands of those who are currently practicing. Our job is to make sure that we teach as we learn and keep up with all the changes happening in our field.
It allows for growth and networking to take place.
